During the interview essay and the actual interview, I can honestly say that I have a lot of fun. I was able to take some time out of class to meet up with my group members and not only get an interview done, but we also created a relationship with my classmates. I was able to acquire information about subcultures group that surround my everyday life. Having the opportunity to interview my peer, Xin, about his subculture anime was very interesting and as an outsider in this subculture, I can honestly say that it is very provocative and I see myself being part of this subculture in the future. I was also present for Xin’s interview with Yael, so I was not only able to learn about anime but also about “Friends”, which is one of Yael’s subcultures.
Anime is a fun subculture whose main goal is to educate and give humor and pleasure to its viewers. Viewers vary depending on age, sex, or overall preferences. It goes from educational animation for kids to adult animations. Along the process of this essay, I engaged in several of our class learning outcomes. One of these is, “Develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes”. I experienced group work when exchanging contact information, subculture topic, and while doing a group interview. As a group, we decided who was interviewing who and who was peer-reviewing whose paper. That demonstrated the collaborative and social aspect of our writing. The purpose of all this process was mostly to engage and look into other groups and reflect on differences between different cultures, and lifestyles. I also “enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing and self-assessment”. During the interview, I used strategies to take notes and remember the actions and details about Xin’s reaction to my questions and comments. I practice the use of post-it notes and web-notetaking style.
As my main goal for this paper, I wanted my audience, the professor, and my peers, to get a detailed and well understandable overview of Xin’s subculture, anime. I was very excited to write this paper because since the moment I heard what Xin’s subculture was, I started to look into it, and I found it very interesting. Overall, I consider this subculture a good one, and
it’s very easy to join. The audience may be an insider or an outsider in this subculture, but I feel that after reading about what it is like to be an insider like Xin explained, I consider that the relationship between me and my audience can be stronger because this subculture makes everyone interest to look into it or maybe become an insider.
