Personal Artifact Reflection

The personal artifact essay was a great process of going more in deep of getting to know our own and our peer’s valuable artifacts and backgrounds. Along the process of writing this essay, I was able to try new writing strategies that made my writing easier. Strategies such as the use of “post-it” notes and writing multiple drafts. At the end of my final draft, I was able to realize that my attempt to take into consideration the course learning outcomes were successful. There were three course learning outcomes that played a big role along with my paper, as well as some writing elements.

The process of writing this paper was not complicated at all. At first, it was hard to begin, like any other paper it’s hard to write the first few sentences. Having into consideration our second course learning outcome, “Enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment”,  I began by creating my outline, using the six-pointed star. The six-pointed star consists of a star with six different sides or corners, each one of them containing one of the following questions: who, what, when, where, how and why. This is a strategy I would recommend to everyone because it helps you organize and introduce all ideas needed for your paper to make sense. A new strategy I introduce to my routine when doing this essay was the use of post-it notes to separate and organized ideas into the different paragraphs. Another strategy that helped me during this process is our fourth course learning outcome which consists of developing and engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes, I was able to have in-class group activities as well as online interaction with some peers to have our papers reviewed and commented though all our different writing methods. Acknowledge various ranges of linguistic differences is our first course learning outcome that I consider was used by everyone in the class through our peer review process, because most of us speak a different language and we come from different backgrounds, and we were able to perceive that with this paper.

Besides this paper being assign, I was inspired to write this paper because the topic interested me and I wanted my professor and my peers, as my audience, to perceive my purpose which was to introduce them to a side of me that not everyone knows, my background. In this class, most of us share similar beliefs and experiences, and this makes us have such a strong relationship that through my writing I am able to communicate something that others can relate to. Overall, as our first paper, this was a great icebreaker for all of us to get to know each other a little more and know that we are not by ourselves in this because we are surrounded by people sharing the same experiences as us.
